Ou là là!

In the summer I redesigned the Fold+Roll into French. It was a particularly French summer - with the Tour de France segueing into the Paris Olympics and it felt very much in keeping with the mood to redraw the artwork and translate the text.

There are some things that are now eternally linked with this new design - Mark Cavendish’s record-breaking sprint win, the short-lived possibility that there might be an actual battle between Vingegaard and Pogačar, the emergence of Girmay as the next sprint winner.

And the excitement and seeming disbelief that not only could Paris win hearts and minds with a spectacularly stylish Olympic Games (without compromising on its Frenchness, sense of history or sheer artistry) but that the French medal table would make impressive reading.

I learned new nuances in the French language. Whilst an impossibly stacked set of odds where the chances of a French win would be vanishingly small is ‘compliqué’ the filling of a podium - bronze, silver and gold - with French BMX riders is ‘pas mal’.

In all it was a summer of levity and exuberance, embellished with artistry, creativity and joie de vivre. Or in phrase that my French friends may understand: Not bad.

Pas mal, mes amis, pas mal.
